I never thought I'd get into these MMOG's but this game is really good.

"EVE Online is a player-driven persistent-world massively multiplayer online game set in a science fiction space setting. Players pilot a wide array of customizable ships through a universe comprising over five thousand solar systems.[1] Most solar systems are connected to one or more other solar systems by means of jump gates. The solar systems can contain several entities including but not limited to: moons, planets, stations, asteroid belts and complexes.

Players of EVE Online are able to participate in any number of in-game professions and activities, including mining, manufacturing, trade and combat (both player versus environment and player versus player). The coolest things IMHO are
1) No skill grinding like in WoW. You don't have to hack'n'slash n+1 peons into pieces to get experience to advance in ur skills. You learn all the time, even when your not connected to the server.
2) Freedom. You can pretty much go wherever you please right from the start. You can do missions, mine ore, explore distant solar systems, manufacture stuff, or just prey on unsuspecting miners and steal their cargo. There 30.000+ players online with whom u can interact at any given time.
3) Overall coolness. It looks good, it sounds good and the other players are more mature then those whiny moronic WoW'ers. The average age in WoW is between 12-16 and in EVEO it's 20-25. It really makes a difference.

It's free to download (about 650Mbs) and atm u can get a free 14-day trial. I'm in love. Oh, and it runs on Mac and Linux too.
